In her paper “In Plato’s Cave,” Susan Sontag argues that photography is a mechanism that allows the viewer to experience a moment and apply meaning to it. She states that this provides the viewer with ownership of the subject, allowing them to concurrently understand something that wasn’t experienced while also envisioning themselves experiencing it. Photography refuses objectivity and shows an ‘unbiased’ view. I have always loved the practice as a study of both architecture and the surrounding environment.
