VISUAL STUDIES [2012] INSTRUCTOR: TSZ YAN NG
Proposal: Create an isolation shed for the yard of sculptor Tony Smith; a pioneer in American minimalism. Tony contracted tuberculosis as a youth and his family, in an effort to protect his fragile immune system, constructed a one-room prefabricated house in the backyard.
The design of Tony Smith’s Isolation Shed uses intersecting volumes to create an open-air design that can be easily navigated by the young child. Orthographic views, along with perspective and section drawings were constructed to represent the shed design.
