Structural assessment of existing concrete using Ground Penetrating Radar
TESTING ENGINEERS AND CONSULTANTS PROJECT MANAGER: RUBAN RAMOS
A Ground Penetrating Radar System (GPRS) allows for accurate subsurface detection of objects such as utility lines, rebar, or storage tanks. It is commonly used in construction as an alternative to drilling or excavation. Since the recession of 2008, the newly energized city of Detroit has seen a surge in new development. One of many exciting restoration projects happening around the city is the Corktown Lofts. It is a mixed-use development project by the Bedrock investment firm. The project involves the conversion of old warehouse space into lofts and commercial retailers. For this project, I conducted a GPR survey of the column grid and slab structure. This survey was used by a structural engineering firm to assess the stability of the warehouse with the option of adding a rooftop bar to the complex.
